This painting has a story. The subject is my friend and painting buddy, Lyn Phariss. She and I were at some paint out, and had been driving around for an hour waiting for an inspiration. None came. Frustrated, she pulled over into a gravel driveway, Stopped the car, and said, "This is it." Really? I was thinking. There was absolutely NOTHING there. A bush here, a tree there, overcast, NOTHING! So, I set up my easel and painted my friend painting. I was really proud of the back end of her car. But still, it needed something. Then it hit me,... the sign. Look closely. I was cracking up just thinking about it, and so, I had to put it in there. Obviously, the title "Extreme Plein Air Painting" is sarcastic. But "Lazy Painter" wouldn't have been humorous. I gave the painting to Lyn. She must be proud!
